The world is struggling now to keep up with Artificial Intelligence. On the Eastern Shore, businesses are also trying to understand this transforming technology. Help in the form of research and innovation is not far away. 91短视频 recently received a $380,000 grant from the National Science Foundation, specifically to spread the gospel of AI to rural areas like the Eastern Shore. Dr. Clifton Griffin, dean of graduate studies and research, sees part of the Rural AI Solutions and Engagement Project as a way to demystify the new technology.

WBOC: SU Students Donate Blood on Giving Tuesday

The Blood Bank of Delmarva held a blood drive at Salisbury for Giving Tuesday. Students, staff, and community members donated blood in the Guerrieri Student Union. Keira Lucas, a freshman nursing student, said working at TidalHealth has allowed her to understand why donating blood is so important: "It's very difficult for some of the patients that have gone through a lot of blood loss when we don't have blood." Holding the blood drive on campus gave students the opportunity to donate while they were busy with classes.

Members of the 91短视频 Marching Band recently joined the Washington Commanders Marching Band for a joint rehearsal in District Heights, Md., giving Sea Gull musicians a chance to practice alongside one of the NFL’s most visible ensembles. Students learned the team’s fight song, “Hail to the Commanders,” directly from the pros during a weekly practice session attended by musicians who perform before tens of thousands of fans at every Washington home game.

Fire can strike without warning, and the 91短视频 Fire Department is working to stay prepared — including at local schools. Firefighters recently trained inside a 91短视频-owned building slated for demolition. Crews practiced search techniques, rapid-intervention skills and basement operations — procedures they say can save lives when seconds matter. The building, along with several nearby properties, was purchased by the SU Foundation, Inc. in 2017 and currently has no redevelopment plans.

SU Percussion Ensemble
At Salisbury, the percussion ensemble is more than just a group of students — it’s a community of musicians built on collaboration, synchronicity, and creativity. Under the direction of Eric Shuster, the ensemble performs pieces ranging from classical percussion works to modern, experimental compositions. At the ensemble’s recent concert, it performed a new piece by composer Lila Wildy Quillin, written specifically for the group. The ensemble also performed a unique piece, In C by Terry Riley, that takes up to an hour to perform.

WMDT: SU PRESTO Student Zapuche a Musical Prodigy

Inside Fulton Hall Room 122 at Salisbury, 14-year-old violinist Jonathan Zapuche makes musical magic. He received his first violin lesson through SU’s PRESTO performing arts outreach program and soon was good enough to play with the veterans. “I played in Los Angeles at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with Gustavo Dudamel, a renowned artistic music director; that was an amazing experience,” he said. His talents recently took him to the Great Hall at SU where he performed for a crowd of 160.
